As digital currencies gain global traction, so does the importance of safeguarding them. Unlike traditional bank accounts, cryptocurrency wallets are self-custodied, meaning you—and only you—are responsible for securing your funds. That’s where Tŕezor®, a trusted hardware wallet, comes into play. Whether you’ve chosen the Trezor Model One or the Model T, your setup starts at the official portal: Trezor.io/Start.
This guide will walk you through the essential steps to safely initialize and begin using your Tŕezor® device.
Upon receiving your Tŕezor® device, carefully unbox it and verify its authenticity. Each genuine Tŕezor® arrives in tamper-evident packaging with security seals intact. If the seal appears broken or the packaging seems tampered with, contact Trezor support immediately and do not use the device.
Open a secure browser on your computer and go to https://trezor.io/start. This is the official starting point to set up your device. Select your device model—Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T—to begin the guided installation process.
You’ll be prompted to download Trezor Suite, the official desktop app used to manage your crypto assets.
Download Trezor Suite for Windows, macOS, or Linux directly from the website. Once installed, connect your device via USB. The Suite will automatically detect your Tŕezor and check for any necessary firmware updates. If prompted, install the latest firmware—this ensures your device has the latest security patches.
Note: Do not disconnect your device during this update process.
After installation, you will be offered two options:
If you’re new, select "Create new wallet." Your device will generate a 12- or 24-word recovery seed, which is your only backup. Write it down by hand on the recovery card provided—never store it digitally.
If you’re restoring a wallet, enter your recovery seed securely via the device (on Model T) or through a masked interface (on Model One).
Secure your device with a PIN code. This adds a protective layer every time you connect your Tŕezor. For advanced users, an optional passphrase adds even more security by creating a hidden wallet accessible only with that phrase.
Once setup is complete, you can begin sending, receiving, and storing cryptocurrencies through Trezor Suite. Tŕezor supports a wide range of coins including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and many ERC-20 tokens.
Getting started with Tŕezor® via Trezor.io/Start® is simple, secure, and essential to managing your crypto safely. Take control of your digital future today—offline, encrypted, and in your hands.
